What are silos?

Generally, silos are used in industry or agriculture for the storage or warehousing of bulk materials. This ranges from grain to cement or salt, for example. Silos generally come in various designs. There are round, rectangular, or polygonal silos, which are primarily made of steel, reinforced concrete, aluminum, wood, or fiberglass-reinforced plastic.

Holten offers you two different versions of grit storage silos for winter service applications: Grit storage silos made of wood / steel and from GRP / steelBut even for larger quantities we provide you Grit halls are available to support you.

How do silos work?

Silos largely operate according to the so-called first-in, first-out principle. This means that the silos are filled with stored goods from the top and removed from the bottom. This ensures that the salt that was stored first in the silo is also removed first.

Why silo storage?

Holten grit storage silos offer with the selected materials Wood, GFK In combination with steel, they provide optimal conditions for the goods to be stored – especially salt. The grit containers are particularly durable and robust, as well as corrosion and weather-resistant. They are the ideal solution for storing road salt in a dry environment and for quick loading.

Wood is particularly advantageous in this area: Due to its minimal thermal conductivity, it is considered a perfect insulator. This prevents the grit from being damaged by condensation from sunlight. Most importantly, the material is highly salt-tolerant and even has a positive effect on the wood during storage.

Not all plastics are created equal: Glass-reinforced plastics (GRP) are modern materials that have become indispensable in modern industry. The material is extremely versatile in its processing and is therefore used, among other things, for our grit storage silos. The plastic impresses with its light weight and, at the same time, its enormous strength and stability. In addition to weather and heat resistance, GRP also exhibits corrosion and chemical resistance. This makes this versatile material ideal for storing your grit.

And why hall storage and concrete blocks as storage?

Furthermore, there are possibilities for storage in Grit hallsThe storage halls and the concrete blocks with retractable roofs fulfill a special function with regard to temperature and humidity. In this respect, they offer you perfect conditions for storing road salt in large quantities. You have a wide range of options: You can choose between various dimensions and capacities, and we will then adapt the grit storage facility to your needs.

This way, you're not only well prepared for the winter, but also ideally equipped for the season. These larger alternatives to grit storage silos meet all the requirements for modern, efficient, and environmentally friendly winter service.
